On the afternoon of October 20, 2023, the “Bilingual Connectivity Across the Globe: Discussing the Rule of Law in the Free Trade Port” bilingual legal salon was held at the Hainan Free Trade Port Intellectual Property Court. The event was hosted by the Hainan High People’s Court and organized by the Hainan Free Trade Port Intellectual Property Court. At the invitation of the organizer, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court designated judicial assistant Jiang Linhao to participate via video conference.

More than 50 participants attended the salon both online and offline, including representatives from the Supreme People’s Court, judges from the Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou Intellectual Property Courts, representatives from the Hainan Intellectual Property Office, the First Branch of the Hainan Provincial People’s Procuratorate, the Hainan Provincial Lawyers Association, the Haikou International Commercial Mediation Center, Hainan University, as well as judges and judicial assistants from the Hainan courts.

The theme of the salon was “Benchmarking International High-Standard Economic and Trade Rules and Strengthening the Rule-of-Law Safeguards for Intellectual Property in the Free Trade Port.” Using both Chinese and English, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as “Discussion of Typical Foreign-Related Intellectual Property Cases,” “Exploration and Practice in the Protection of Foreign-Related Intellectual Property,” and “Suggestions for Improving the Intellectual Property Protection System of the Hainan Free Trade Port.”

Judicial assistant Jiang Linhao delivered a presentation in English, introducing the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court’s practical experience and specific measures in the protection of foreign-related intellectual property from six aspects: providing judicial safeguards for a first-class law-based business environment, deepening reform of intellectual property adjudication mechanisms, implementing case differentiation to ensure fairness and efficiency, improving diversified dispute resolution mechanisms, strengthening international exchanges and cooperation in intellectual property judicial protection, and cultivating a team of professionals for foreign-related adjudication.

This exchange promoted mutual learning between the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court and other specialized intellectual property courts and relevant institutions, contributing positively to the enhancement of foreign-related intellectual property judicial protection and the development of a preferred international forum for intellectual property litigation.
