Vice President Li Shulan Met Delegation Led by Tom Duke,Senior Intellectual Property (IP) Liaison Officeratthe British Embassy Beijing

Accompanied by Mr. Liu Junhua and Ms. Chen Huizhen, Presiding Judges of the No.1 and No.2 Intellectual Property Tribunalsof Shanghai Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Court (Shanghai IPR Court) respectively, Ms. Li Shulan, Vice President of the court, met a delegation led by Mr. Tom Duke, Senior Intellectual Property (IP) LiaisonOfficer of British Embassy Beijing, on the morning of April 21, 2015 and had friendly exchanges after Mr. Duke and his delegation paid a visit to the Case Filing Hall and the court. Following the welcome of the delegation, Ms. Li Shulan introduced the organization structure, staffing arrangement and operation of the court as well as other aspects such as the protection of the IPR in China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and the differences between Shanghai IPR Court and its counterparts elsewhere. She also made a comprehensive elaboration of five aspects by emphasizing the orderly proceeding of trials concerning IPR cases, formation of the professional trial pattern, developmentof the co-working environment, staged achievements made in the judicial reform and the constant deepeningof judicial transparency. Mr. Tom Duke extended his gratitudeto Shanghai IPRCourt for the hospitality and gave an introduction to the British IPR court system, the IP team of the British Embassy and the exchange programs between British IPR judges and their Chinese counterparts. He also hoped that the communication and cooperation with Shanghai IPR Court could be further intensified. Discussions were also conducted between the two parties on such issues as the ascertaining of technical facts in various countries, roles of theassistants to judges, role of judges, presentation of evidence and the determination of the compensation amount. As was pointed out by Ms. Li Shulan, Shanghai IPR Court, underthe support of International Exchange Base (Shanghai) for Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property of Chinese Courts, would actively conduct international communication and cooperation for judicial protection and play a part in the formulation of new international rules concerning the judicial protection of IPR. Given the acceleration of global economic integration, nations worldwide will unexceptionally face a professional crux of IPRprotection and thus further international collaboration and exchanges with countries including Britainin the future will be enhanced.
