On August 31, the 1st Appointment Ceremony for Specially Invited IP consultant experts & Consultation Seminar was grandly held by Shanghai Intellectual Property Right Court. 18 experts and scholars, including Li Guoguang, former Vice President of the Supreme People's Court, Prof. Pei Gang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Principal of Tongji University, Prof. Lin Zhongqin, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Vice Principal of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Prof. Liu Chuntian, President of the Intellectual Property Academy of Renmin University of China and Chairman of the Intellectual Property Law Association, were engaged as the first batch of specially invited consultant experts. Wu Xielin, President of the Shanghai IP Court, presented appointment letters to the first batch of specially invited consultant experts. Mr. Wu Xielin pointed out that the specially invited consultant system was a significant step taken forward by the think-tank of the IP Court as well as an important part of the mechanism of scientific, democratic and law-oriented decision making. With the significant role it is playing in protecting IP rights and serving technological innovation, and its need for sophisticated experts and scholars to provide cutting-edge, scientific and effective suggestions, Shanghai IP Court hopes that the specially invited consultant experts can contribute their wisdom to the scientific development of Shanghai IP Court, provide professional guide for fair justice, build a bridge for industrial communications, and exert their influence over the promotion of public credibility. To enable these specially invited consultant experts to perform their functions well, the IP Court will also explore and improve 3 working mechanisms including the scientific consulting and decision-making system for significant issues, normalized business communication system and diverse expert discussion mechanism. The first consultation seminar that was held later mainly discussed the "3-year development planning for Shanghai Intellectual Property Right Court" which was drafted by the court. The experts attending the seminar offered constructive suggestions and advice revolving around such aspects as the mission, orientation, function, task and developing path of Shanghai Intellectual Property Right Court, and from different perspectives of the national strategy, international horizon and judicial rules, which provided forward-looking, scientific guide and reference for improving the 3-year development planning and better implementing the reform requirements of Shanghai IP Court.
