President Wang Qiuliang Attended US Ambassador's IPR Roundtable at Invitation

On October 14, US Ambassador's IPR Roundtable was held in Shanghai with the theme of "IPR Enforcement in the Global Economy: Current Trend and Challenges of China". Personnel from the government, court and IP field were invited to attend the event, including Wang Qiuliang, President of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court, Chen Huizhen, Presiding Judge of No.2 IP Tribunal. In his opening address, President Wang Qiuliang indicated that the implementation of IPR strategy plays an important role in promoting economic and social development and in improving international core competitiveness. Since reform and opening up, China has been paying high attention to IPR protection. As the pacesetter city of national reform and opening up and the pioneer of scientific development, Shanghai is accelerating the building of a center for technological innovation with global influence. Since its establishment, Shanghai Intellectual Property Court has been equally protecting the legal rights and interests of Chinese and foreign right holders in strict accordance with the IPR laws in China and by following the principle of national treatment, actively applying the preservation system before and during litigation according to law, continuously increasing the compensation for IPR infringement, and severely punishing the malicious infringement upon IPR, so that its ability and level of IPR judicial protection has been improved. Meanwhile, it pays high attention to the international exchange and cooperation on IPR judicial protection, actively promotes the judicial exchange and cooperation with Chinese and foreign professional intellectual property organizations, associations, peers based on the Chinese Courts International Exchanges Base (Shanghai) for Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property Rights founded by the Supreme People's Court in Shanghai, and has obtained remarkable achievements. The Roundtable was held in Shanghai, and shall play a positive role in promoting the IPR judicial protection work of Shanghai. Through exchanges and discussions, the participants will definitely enhance mutual understanding, build consensus and jointly promote the progress of IPR judicial protection. Presiding Judge Chen Huizhen participated in the discussion of the first topic "Justice & Law Enforcement: Trend and Challenges in Current Civil and Criminal Proceedings with Respect to the Collection, Preservation and Consideration of Evidence", delivered a thematic speech on the topic of "Identification and Determination of Electronic Data" by combining living examples concerning the issues including the original copy of electronic data, the completeness determination of electronic data, the standardization on the collection and acquisition of electronic data, and interacted actively and effectively with the participants on site.
