On October 31, Seminar on "Judicial
Protection of Computer Software Patents" sponsored by Shanghai High
People's Court and undertaken by Shanghai Intellectual Property Court was held
successfully. Vice President of Shanghai High People's Court Mao Ronghua,
President of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court Wang Qiuliang, Vice President
of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court Li Shulan, judges from Shanghai,
Beijing, Guangzhou, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, etc., principals of relevant departments of the
State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China, patent
attorneys of Office of Policy
and International Affairs of United States Patent and Trademark Office, IP
Consulate of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai, experts and scholars from
enterprises, colleges and universities attended this seminar. In his address,
President Wang Qiuliang gave the guests a warm welcome on behalf of Shanghai
Intellectual Property Court. He indicated that the theme of this seminar was
closely related to the theoretical and practical
frontiers, and hoped that the standards for trying the disputes over computer
software patents and for application of laws could be gradually established by
taking the opportunity of this seminar, so as to provide solid legal guarantee
for the development of China software industry. Representatives present at the
seminar conducted a one-day discussion around topics like "conditions on patent
application of enterprise computer software", "Chinese and U.S.
examination standards on computer software patent authorization",
"judicial protection of computer software patents", etc.
