Recently, Shanghai Intellectual Property Court made a judgment according to law for an invention patent ownership case involving chemical catalyst after finding out the technical facts with assistance of the technical investigator. During the trial, the plaintiff submitted a large number of previous experimental records to prove that the inventor, i.e. the defendant, had carried out experiments on relevant technology when working for the plaintiff. These experimental records contained a lot of chemical formulas and related experimental data, whereas the two parties had dispute over the relationship between the  data and the invention patent involved. Given this, the collegial panel applied for participation of technical investigator in the court trial. Technical Investigation Division finally dispatched its part-time technical investigator - Deputy Chief Engineer of Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry. After examining the evidence carefully, the technical investigator sorted the plaintiff's experimental records and put forward technical examination opinions to the collegial panel, which finally adopted these opinions and .made a judgment according to law after ascertaining the technical facts.
