On the morning of October 26, a 20-member delegation of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) visited Shanghai Intellectual Property Court (SIPC). Ms. Li Shulan, Vice President of SIPC, received the guests. Chen Huizhen, full-time member of the SIPC Examination Board, Judge Yi Jia and other personnel of the court were present during the meeting.

Established in 1972, IPO is headquartered in Washington D.C. Its membership includes over 200 world famous transnational companies, such as IBM, 3M, Microsoft, Google, and Johnson & Johnson, as well as more than 12,000 individuals. It is the only association in the US that provides services for IP owners in all technical fields. The delegation was shown around the litigation service center, courtrooms and other facilities of SIPC, and watched an English video about the court work. At the following seminar, in-depth communication was carried out between both parties around such topics astemporary & permanent injunctions, disclosure &preservation of evidence, damages for patent right infringement, and expert witness system.

Mr. Henry Hadad, Deputy Chairman of IPO, extended on behalf of the delegation his gratitude for the warm reception of SIPC, and congratulations for the achievements made by the court in the judicial protection of IP rights in more than two years’ time after its establishment. Vice President Li Shulan appreciated IPO’s attention to and recognition of the court’s work. According to her, despite the differences in the legal systems of China and the US, both countries are confronted with common difficulties and challenges in enhancing IP right protection. SIPC is only too willing to communicate with IPO and other professional organs and institutes for the purpose of jointly promoting the level of IP protection.
