ShanghaiIntellectual Property Court Organized Examiners and Inspectors to Answer Inquiries Through Remote Video

On the afternoon of December 13, No.1 Intellectual Property Tribunal of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court held a pretrial conference through remote video to gatherexaminers and inspectors to answer inquiries from the parties concerned about technical facts in a case concerning dispute between plaintiff and defendant (a company in Shanghai)over invention patent infringement. Given that the examiners and inspectors are in Beijing and it was difficult to coordinate their court appearance date at the end of the year, the collegial panel decided to organize them to answer inquiries from the parties concerned through remote video, so as to reduce the litigation period, save the litigation cost, and improve the trial efficiency. The pretrial conference was presided over by the judge Xu Fei in charge, at which the plaintiff, defendant and judge asked the examiners and inspectors questions about the technical issues involved in turn. The whole process lasted for half an hour, with established task completed efficiently, conveniently and successfully. Holding online pretrial conference by means of information technology is a useful exploration for the trial of patent cases often known for long period and high cost currently.
